The Office of Civic and Community Engagement (OCCE) is a testament to the University of La Verne’s dedication to its founding core values and commitment to collectively improve and enhance local, regional, and global communities by empowering students to be civically engaged and responsible leaders in their communities.

OCCE is excited to introduce all new students to their FIRST ACADEMIC EXPERIENCE of the year! ÌýOn this day, all new students will have the opportunity to engage with their fellow peers, FLEX faculty, and La Verne staff members in a service project with one of our partnering community-based organizations. ÌýFrom community gardening to environmental conservation, advocacy, and supporting vulnerable populations, students will be presented with several community engagement opportunities!
What is FLEX & New Student Community Engagement Day?
FLEX & New Student Community Engagement Day provides students with an academic community engagement experience with partnering community-based organizations. Through this collaborative educational experience, we build mutually beneficial relationships that inspire a culture of commitment to surroundingÌý communities and cultivate civically engaged and responsible citizens.

The goal of FLEX & New Student Community Engagement Day is for all new students to engage in service with partnering community-based organizations to address locally community-identified needs.
What is GivePulse?
GivePulse is the University of La Verne’s official community engagement platform. It is an online network of students, faculty, staff and community partners that connects the University members to service opportunities in the community. Everyone with a La Verne email has access to GivePulse. You can access our quick tutorial videos and instructions to help you get started.ÌýÌý

SCHEDULE FOR THE DAY
TIME: 8:30 am – 1:00 pm | LOCATION: Outside Ludwick Center
- 8:30 am – 9:00 am: Check-In in front of Ludwick Center
- 9:00 am: Walk over to Hillcrest CommunityÌý
- 9:30 am: Kickoff @ Hillcrest
- 10:00 am: Service begins at Hillcrest
- 12:00 pm: Walk back to campus
- 12:15 – 1pm: LunchÌý @ The Spot Dining Hall (Main Campus)
