In addition to regular summer sessions, the University of La Verne offers a wide range of programs, connecting with various community members, providing unique learning opportunities, and sharing more about university life and offerings. About 1,000 students, from elementary to current college students have participated so far.<\/p>\n

TELACU Summer Academy<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Several events were held for the first time at a private institution, including Girl Talk<\/a>, a one-day conference held June 17 for 35 girls and young women ages 12 to 19 led by former Miss California and mentor Meagan Tandy. The conference brought together around a dozen volunteer speakers and leaders, who shared information and tips about mental health, social media safety, happiness, and nutrition.<\/p>\n

Also, for the first time last month, the university hosted high school students from the East Los Angeles Community Union (TELACU<\/a>) Education Foundation,\u00a0 a nonprofit that empowers underserved communities with resources to expand opportunities in education, career building, economic development, and affordable housing.\u00a0 During the three-day college preparatory summer academy, students experienced campus life and met with program leaders. The College of Arts and Sciences organized an interactive workshop on artificial intelligence featuring\u00a0 STEM career expert and educator Tia Villeral. Students were able to explore AI tools in real time, creating imagery, comic strips, and even using virtual reality headsets.<\/p>\n

Professor Issam Ghazzawi Received REACH Award from PUSD<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Meanwhile, the REACH\/Fleischer Summer Business Camp<\/a> provided high schoolers with an immersive three-week business intensive. During this camp, teams were mentored to develop their own business ideas, write comprehensive business plans, then present them to a panel of professional judges. In addition to the entrepreneurial focus, the camp also offered college counseling services and engaging recreational activities. Professor of Management Issam Ghazzawi was recognized by Pomona Unified School District for his excellence in leading the program during their school board meeting on June 28.<\/p>\n

IBS Americas 2023<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

The University of La Verne also continues to host many partner program participants and international student programs. Some of them include the PALS Los Angeles<\/a> program, a week-long inclusive summer camp for students with and without Down syndrome held from July 16 to 22. PALS provides a fun and inclusive environment for campers, fostering personal growth and creating lasting memories. And IBS Americas<\/a>, a short-term international executive course program, invites students from Brazil for up to three weeks to experience classes in topics they want to study in January, July, and September.<\/p>\n

SOAR Orientation Week<\/strong><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

For current students, the Office of Religious and Spiritual Life organized the Summer Service Program<\/a>, allowing students to engage with the broader community through a 10-week volunteer experience. This program aimed to make a positive difference in the lives of others and foster a sense of social responsibility among participating students.<\/p>\n

Summer Orientation, Advising, and Registration (SOAR)<\/a> events, held throughout the summer, offers a warm welcome to incoming first-year students and transfers. During SOAR, students meet with academic advisors, register for their first semester of classes, and have the opportunity to connect with future classmates. They also enjoy an overnight stay in the Citrus Hall Residence, immersing themselves in the campus community. The final SOAR event took place July 20 with international SOAR.<\/p>\n

Finally, a \u00a0Summer Visit Day<\/a> is scheduled for August 12. This is an open house opportunity for prospective students interested in visiting the campus and receiving assistance with financial aid, housing, and\u00a0 on-site applications This event allows individuals to explore the university firsthand and make informed decisions about their future education.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
